Botox For Migraines Treatment

Botox For Migraines in Dallas, Tx

Advanced adult Migraines treatment

Botox is best known for its use to eliminate wrinkles, but the treatment was originally approved for muscle spasms. Today Botox is an effective and preventive treatment for migraines. Many professionals offer safe Botox injections, which reduce the number of migraines that a person may endure. The way Botox works to help reduce future migraines is fascinating, which is why you’ll want to learn more about how it works.

What is Botox?

Botox happens to be a purified form of botulinum toxin that’s often used in medical and cosmetic procedures. When Botox enters the muscle via an injection, it works by blocking the nerve signals, which lead to muscle contractions. The result is that the muscles relax, and that’s how Botox can temporarily relieve pain. Botox is also used to alleviate and prevent instances of chronic migraines.

Chronic Migraine – What is it?

If you have less than 14 migraine headache days a month, then that’s classified as episodic migraines. Chronic migraines are characterized as:

  • Having more than 15 a month
  • Out of almost 8 of the days you have a headache, it is a migraine
  • The headaches may last for up to 4 hours, if not more

Chronic migraines last longer, and the pain can be more severe as compared to those episodic migraines.

What Can You Do About Migraines?

Migraines can be painful and may lead to a severe throbbing pain that can last for up to 3 days or 72 hours. The pain tends to center around the temple, usually on one side of the head, but it can also be across both sides.

Now there are a couple of facts about migraines that are worth knowing:

Services

Triggers

Migraines are triggered by fatigue, stress, bright lights, drop in barometric pressure, certain foods, hormone changes, and fasting.

Aura

Now many patients report experiencing an aura around 20 minutes before the migraine pain starts. The aura may cause vision changes like flashes of light.

Symptoms Across the Body

Some people report feeling dizzy, sensitive to light for around 24 hours, or confused after the migraine.

What to Expect from Botox Treatment?

Botox treatment usually has Botox injected into key muscle sites, which are meant to prevent future migraines. The spots include the forehead, back of the head, neck, upper back, and both temples. People may receive up to 30 injections using a small needle, so it does not hurt. The treatment will last 15 minutes, and most people can return to their normal routine soon after. The second treatment is scheduled for 12 weeks later. It takes 2-3weeks to see results. Botox needs to be continued every 12 weeks to maintain the results. Visit our neurology clinic in Murphy, Tx today for a comprehensive treatment program.

An excellent center that genuinely cares about their patients. He made my dad feel comfortable after his stroke, and took out the time to make sure he understood the total impact and affect on his life, as well as how to compensate for it.

My niece suffered from seizure spells for a long time & she has been prescribed several seizure medications by many doctors but continued to have seizures despite everything. We almost lost hope until a friend of us referred us to Dr. Alshareef! Going there was the best decision we made. He was extremely kind and attentive. He spent a lot of time listening to us & trying to understand our problem. He stopped the old medications she was taking & started her on a new regimen & since then she had no seizures! & it’s her first 6 months without an episode. We are so grateful. God bless you!

Dr. Al-Shareef is a fabulous neurologist and an even better human being. He takes the time to listen to the patient (and her daughter!). He looks at the whole person and tailors care based on their specific circumstances. He’s reliable, dependable, trustworthy, knowledgeable, and, most importantly, he says it like it is. As a result of Dr Al-Shareef’s insight, my mother is off a bunch of medicines, safer (reduced balance issues means less falling), doing more, and happier. If I could rate him higher than 5 stars, I would.
