Stroke Treatment

Stroke Doctor Servicing Dallas, Tx

Advanced adult Stroke treatment

Are you in need of a doctor who specializes in strokes? A person may have a stroke when the blood supply to a part of the brain is interrupted or when there is a rupturing of the blood vessels in the brain, which spills blood into the adjoining cells. The brain cells may die when they aren’t able to receive enough oxygen and nutrients that blood brings to them or if there is sudden bleeding around them.

Symptoms of a stroke are sudden numbness or weakness, especially on just one part of the body. It can cause trouble speaking and confusion, making it hard for people to understand what’s going on. There might also be trouble seeing from one or both eyes; stroke victims also report having trouble walking, losing balance, and coordination, in addition to severe headaches.

There are two forms of a stroke, i.e., an ischemic stroke, which is a blockage of the blood vessels that supply blood to the brain, and hemorrhagic stroke, which is caused by bleeding into brain tissue.

Treating Stroke

There are three stages of treatment for stroke victims, i.e., prevention, therapy right after, and then stroke rehabilitation.  Treatment after the first stroke focuses on preventing the recurrence of another stroke based on treating the victim’s underlying risk factors like atrial fibrillation, hypertension, and diabetes.

Therapies may attempt to prevent a stroke while it is either happening by dissolving or quickly removing the clot, which could lead to an ischemic stroke, or by way of stopping the bleeding in the event of a hemorrhagic stroke. Rehabilitation ensures that individuals can overcome the disabilities caused by the stroke.

The most common treatment is medication coupled with physical therapy. Antithrombotics are the most popular classes of drugs that are used to break up or help dissolve clots.  In some cases, interventional treatments may be implemented after initial evaluation.

Prognosis

Even though a stroke mainly involves the brain, it can affect the entire body. Complete paralysis of one side of the body is the most common disability caused by a stroke. Another common disability is weakness on one side, also referred to as hemiparesis.

Strokes symptoms usually depend on which part of the brain had been involved.  Some patients find it difficult to think, be aware, judge situations, and learn.  Many stroke survivors have difficulty understanding or even forming speech, while others may have a difficult time controlling their emotions, and may suffer from depression.

Some may even suffer from persisting  numbness and strange bodily sensations, areas of intense pain mostly noted around feet and hands, which are made worse by temperature fluctuation and movement. About 25% percent of people who recover will experience a recurrence within the next 5 years.

Research into Stroke Treatment

At present, researchers are actively studying the mechanism and risk factors associated with a stroke, and better ways to achieve more recovery. Some research is also focusing on the genetic aspect of the stroke and its risk factors. Researchers are also developing better ways to assist the brain in repairing or restoring essential functions. Advances in rehabilitation and imaging show that stroke victims can compensate for the loss of function but with a timely approach. Visit our neurology clinic in Murphy, Tx today!

I was seen by Dr. Alshareef on a Teleneurology camera, his office staff helped me install the phone program in a few easy steps. It was a very organized visit in how he went through my medical problems one by one, and planned to meet monthly. He was so amazingly informative and help full. Thank you for all you did to help me.

My niece suffered from seizure spells for a long time & she has been prescribed several seizure medications by many doctors but continued to have seizures despite everything. We almost lost hope until a friend of us referred us to Dr. Alshareef! Going there was the best decision we made. He was extremely kind and attentive. He spent a lot of time listening to us & trying to understand our problem. He stopped the old medications she was taking & started her on a new regimen & since then she had no seizures! & it’s her first 6 months without an episode. We are so grateful. God bless you!

Dr. Al-Shareef is a fabulous neurologist and an even better human being. He takes the time to listen to the patient (and her daughter!). He looks at the whole person and tailors care based on their specific circumstances. He’s reliable, dependable, trustworthy, knowledgeable, and, most importantly, he says it like it is. As a result of Dr Al-Shareef’s insight, my mother is off a bunch of medicines, safer (reduced balance issues means less falling), doing more, and happier. If I could rate him higher than 5 stars, I would.
